And if you want to import loads of Drive files, you can keep them in a specific folder. ![]() You can also open a Google Drive folder on your desktop and save it. For example, when you are sure that you will not have internet access for a while now or need your important files. However, you might sometime face problems in your Google Drive or would like to move files from Google Drive to computer. A kind of free account space lets you save 15 GB on your Google Drive while you can also get 100 GB of storage for just $1.99 a month from Google, and an unbelievable 2 TB (terabytes) 9.99 a month. So a workaround for some might be to disconnect your accounts, add a personal account FIRST, then add the Workspace account.Google Drive allows all types of files to be stored in one specific place so you can keep all important data in one place. ![]() This seemed to reset the file syncing and my Workspace account files moved back to the mounted volume where they had been before I started. After playing around with it for a few minutes I disconnected my personal account from Drive for Desktop, leaving only my Workspace account. So both accounts were then using the File Provider API. Next, I added my Workspace account and it too appeared under Locations. Once this was finished I could successfully search files using the Spotlight shortcut or search within the Finder. It looked exactly the same as using iCloud Drive. I then clicked the cloud download button next to My Drive and waited while local copies of the files were downloaded. I checked Drive for Desktop and confirmed that my files were being controlled by MacOS, no longer located in the mounted network volume. Which confirms that Spotlight is not indexing those files at all, even those that are locally stored. (instead of "indexing" enabled on other volumes). System/Volumes/Data/Volumes/GoogleDrive: ![]() Inspecting the metadata that Spotlight uses to build its index I get Technically, all files that are streamed from shared drives, either on the fly or set for offline use, are stored in ` /Volumes/GoogleDrive/.shortcut-targets-by-id/something/`. from a shared drive) that are synced for offline use on my computer.
